Mr. Charles “Bernard” Thompson, age 86 of Alvaton, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Thompson was born in Haralson, Georgia on August 16, 1929. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Lamar Thompson and Myrtle Lou Gable Thompson; brothers and sisters, Dorothy, Richard, Lamar, George, Christine and Julian. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Army, retired from Central Truck Lines after 30 plus years of service and was a cherished member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Betty Thompson; sisters, Helen Williams and Jean Thompson; children, Barry Thompson, Bonnie Beavers and husband, Red, Beth Beavers and husband, John, Bridget Roberson and husband, Mickey, Horace Taunton and wife, Vickie, Jean Goepp and husband, John, Becky Boggs and husband, Brady; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; great great-grandchild, namesake Noah Bernard Coleman; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Charles “Bernard” Thompson will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 2:00pm at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 7477 Mt Carmel Rd, Gay, GA 30218. Pastor Randy Graham and Reverend Russ Barr will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Thompson will lie-in-state from 1:00pm until the funeral hour.
