Howard Duane Harmsen, 70, died Thursday, October 2, 2003 of a heart attack at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Howard was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and co-owner of Midwest Fleet Service for over 30 years.
Howard was a member of the Thunderbird Club and Eastgate Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed restoring classic cars and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Harmsen; son, Howard Douglas Harmsen; two daughters, Connie Conlin and LeeAnna Vigor, all of Des Moines; brother, Forrest Harmsen; three sisters, Peggy Wyld, Juanita Kelly and Edna Hernandez; ten grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Bryan, Dustin, Mike, Randi, Austin, Chris Jr., Jordan and Johnny; and two great- grandchildren, Conner and Alex.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Roxane and Jolene and a granddaughter, Michelle.
