Charles N Brown former Jacksonian and father of Harris Brown, editor of the Jackson Sun, died at his home in Memphis late Thursday afternoon after an illness of several months. He was 86 years of age.
Born in Alabama, he came to Jackson in early manhood as a railway postal clerk. He married Miss Minnie Harris daughter of the late Isham B. Harris in 1886 and to this union were born six children. In addition to the son here he is survived by three others Richard H. of Memphis, Erasmus C. of San Francisco, Douglas of Little Rock, and two daughters Mrs. Jack Crooms of Kansas City and Miss Bessie Brown of Memphis. Mrs. Brown died and 1905 and he was later married to Mrs. Ida Jackson of Covington, who died last year.
Mr. Brown resided in Jackson until 1902 when he moved his family to Covington. He remained in the postal service until 20 years ago when he retired in made his home in Memphis while in Jackson he was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church and served on the board of deacons.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at National Funeral Home, Memphis, conducted by T.B. Roddy of the Highland Heights Presbyterian Church intermit will be in the Covington Cemetery.
