Abbie Ruth Barnard, 87, of Decatur, formerly of Bloomington, died Sunday (Aug. 16, 2015) at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur.

She was born Oct. 14, 1927 in Webster Groves, Missouri, the daughter of William T. Wallace and Mary Hammond Wallace. She married Robert Clarence Barnard on June 28, 1951 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and her sister, Virginia W. Jones.

Abbie is survived by her daughter, Mary Virginia (Joseph) Turek and her son, Robert William Barnard.

Abbie earned a bachelor's in education from National College of Education in Evanston. She taught second grade for five years. Abbie served as Worthy Matron in Keystone Chapter of Eastern Star in 1977. She was Grand Warder in 1983 and a Grand Lecturer for 20 years. Abbie was very active in Letitia Green Stevenson Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution in Bloomington and served as Regent. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington. Abbie lived the last several years of her life with her son, Robert, in Champaign.
