SERVICES HELD FOR ACCIDENT VICTIM
Funeral services were held Monday, June 19, 1978 at 10:30 a.m. for Robert Leroy Clayton, Sr., 41, who was killed Friday morning, June 16 while working as backhoe operator at the Missouri Basin Power Project near Wheatland. Clayton died of mass injuries suffered when the backhoe he was operating turned over.
The Rev. Gordon Swedborg officiated at the service held at the Glendo Community Church, with the Schrader-Prell Funeral Home of Wheatland in charge of arrangements. Burial was held later Monday at Fremont, Nebraska.
Clayton was born January 14, 1937 in Fremont, Nebraska, the son of Alfred and Hazel Clayton. He married Mary Kilcoin in Fremont on September 16, 1963. As a construction worker he and his family moved around Nebraska, Kansas and Wyoming, and they had lived in Glendo the past two years. He was a backhoe operator for Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Greeley, Colorado.
Clayton was a member of Operating Engineers Union Number 400, and the Moose Lodge of Laramie.
Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, Jeffery Todd and Robert Leroy Jr.; two daughters, Marilyn Ranee and Roberta Louise, all of Glendo. Also surviving are his mother, Hazel, Fremont, Neb.; six brothers, Alfred Clayton, Jr., Klamath, Ore.; Raymond, Clarence, Harold, Gerald, and Charles, all of Fremont; two sisters, Darlene Shellanager, Superior, Colo., and Dorothy Clayton, Cozad, Neb.
A memorial has been established and contributions can be mailed to Robert L. Clayton Memorial, Box 201, Glendo.
