Jon T. Culvahouse, 64, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 3:42 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Golden Living Center Countryside in La Porte.

Jon T. Culvahouse, 64, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 3:42 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Golden Living Center Countryside in LaPorte.

He was born May 31, 1951, in LaPorte to Joseph R. and Norceda (Rhoda) Culvahouse.

Jon was a member of Agape Christian Church, LaPorte; U.S. Association of Blind Athletes; LaPorte County Libertarian Party, and the Randolph-Sheppard Blind Vending Program. Jon worked for Security Incorporated for seven years in LaPorte County. He received the Outstanding Young Americans Award in 1987. Jon played in Beep Baseball and Goalball, where he led his team three times to the National Championships in Indiana. He graduated from Ball State University in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and history. In 1987 he earned a degree in business administration and supervision from Purdue North Central and later earned a vending degree from Ivy Tech, Indianapolis. He was the owner of JTC Vending, where he sold and filled vending machines in the Indiana State Prison and for the City of Michigan City.

Surviving are his mother, Norceda “Pat” Dooley of LaPorte; three sons, Jon Charles, Dennis Scott (Sherry), and Keith Thomas Culvahouse, all of LaPorte; two brothers, Joseph R. Culvahouse of LaPorte and Arden Culvahouse of Michigan City; three sisters, Korenna Lynn Brewer of Indianapolis and Cindy and Tracey Culvahouse, both of Florida; and four grandchildren, Tiffany Krout of Michigan City, Brittany Culvahouse of Indianapolis, and Brett Riley and Hunter Lynn Culvahouse, both of LaPorte.

Preceding him in death were his father and one brother, Gary L. Culvahouse.

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Pastor Wes Spain officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. until the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the USABA, 1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
