Mrs. Allen was born Aug. 14, 1900, in Ironwood, Mich., to Eric and Kiysa Sarkela.

In 1926, she married Fred Ransom; he died in 1946. In 1951, she married Dr. Lansford Spalding; he died in 1964. In 1969, she married William Kroll; he died in 1971. In 1973, she married Jeb Allen; he died in 2002.

Mrs. Allen was raised and educated in Wisconsin. She moved to Portland when she was 16 and graduated from Roosevelt High School and beauty school. With her first husband and his mother, Edith Hughes, she operated Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Astoria. She returned to Portland in 1969.

During World War II, Mrs. Allen was active with the Astoria Grey Ladies and was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star and Ladies of the Nile.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Gustafson of Portland and Suzanne Sedgley of Los Gatos, Calif.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Family service and interment was Saturday at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.

Riverview Abbey Funeral Home is in charge of Portland arrangements. Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of local arrangements.
