Mr. Beall was for 30 years a sergeant in the US Army and during the World War served as a captain in the AEF. He saw service overseas in France and with the Army of Occupation in Germany. He also served with General Pershing in the Mexican Border campaign and took part in the Cuban pacification. In 1993, he came to Hartford as a sergeant attached to the National Guard and retired from the US Army about 10 years ago. He was chief chef at the State Reformatory for 10 years at the time of his killing.
