Dr. Leinbach died of injuries he suffered when his auto collided on icy pavement with a second car on U.S. 35 at the ConRail Overpass, three miles west of here.
Starke County Coroner Jim O'Donnell ruled death was due to a skull fracture. The doctor was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Indiana State Police Officer Lonnie Adams.
Dr. Leinbach, Hamlet's only physician, had practiced medicine in the town for 26 years.
Two persons in the second car -- driver Iwan Pylyp, 37, of Rt. 1 Knox, and his wife, Elizabeth Pylyp, 38, a passenger -- were taken to Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox. Pylyp was treated for minor injuries, while his wife was admitted and was listed in fair condition today with head and knee cuts.
Trooper Adams said Dr. Leinbach was driving south on U.S. 35 when he lost control of his car on the icy overpass and skidded broadside down the highway until he collided, nearly head-on, with the northbound Pylyp auto.
Dr. Leinbach had a LaPorte address although he lived at 9554 S. U.S. 35 in Starke County, not far from where the accident occurred.
Rev. Johnathon Gosser, pastor of the Hamlet United Methodist Church, and Rev. Dominic Mrena, pastor of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, will officiate at services. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox.
