On January 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marcella Mesner in Germantown, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm southwest of Paullina. In 1982, he started Appeldorn's Trucking which he operated until the time of his death.
Delbert passed away on Saturday, March 12, 1988, in Storm Lake, Iowa, reaching the age of 69 years. He was baptized and later confirmed in 1946 and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. He was also a member of Russell West Post 1 of the American Legion in Paullina.
Delbert leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Marcella of Paullina; three sons: Dennis and wife, Sandy of Paullina, Rodney and wife, Peggy of Bentonville, Arkansas and Larry and wife, Kris of Paullina; two daughters: Stephanie and husband, Randall Mesner of Lake Park, Iowa, and Sandra Appeldorn of Okoboji; also 11 grandchildren; and two brothers: Ray and Gus, both of Paullina; and three sisters: Mrs. Viola Hattermann, Mrs. Norma Andersen, of Paullina, and Mrs. Elsie Westphal of Spencer; also many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William Appeldorn, Jr.
