A native of the Mayflower and Burkeville communities and member of the Burkeville Church of God, he was a resident of the Pinecrest Retirement Community for the past 2 months.
A graduate of Winnie High School, he then was a 2 term Newton County Commissioner before joining the U.S. Navy during WW II. After the war, he worked with the Texas Highway Department, then retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and carrying Mamie fishing, he loved his family and visiting with people.
He was predeceased by his wife, of over 66 years, Mamie in January of 2002.
He was survived by 3 daughters, Glenda Clark and husband T.W., Darlene "Boggie" Rogers and husband Bill and Sandy Foster and husband Wayne, 8 grandchildren, Yavanae and Mike Vaden, Wayne Clark, Lawana and Herbert Bickley, Melanie and Ken Takamoto, Ron Rogers, Gregg and Mary Margaret Foster, Alisa Foster, Angela and Joe Weeks, and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the Burkeville Church of God with burial to follow at Mattox Cemetery.
