Jeremiah was the son of John & Ann (Herrinton) Long. He had 6 brothers and 1 sister. They were David, John Jr, James, Gideon, Elial, Noah & Ann.

Jeremiah's parents left Maryland for Greene County, Pennsylvania before 1771.

Jeremiah served in the Revolutionary War some of it was in Capt Crawfords's Company of the Washington County Militia. This was after his service at Valley Forge with the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Line.

He was a Corporal.

His first wife was Mary Ivers. She was the daughter of Richard & Mary Ivers. The couple had 11 children. They were Nathan, Jeremiah Jr, Frances, Priscilla, Richard, Sarah, David, James, Elizabeth, William & John

The are some that feel Jeremiah's wife Mary was buried next to Jeremiah. Cemetery visits by different people and a site cemetery census made some years ago did not find a marker for her, (Jeremiah's was found).

After Mary died, (before 1812), Jeremiah then married Jane Jones, who was the daughter of Morgan & Mary (Davis) Jones. (Her parents also settled in the area before the Revolutionary War.)

Jeremiah & Jane had 6 children. They were Mary, Samuel, Ruth, Hester, Sarah Ann & Malinda. (After Jeremiah's death Jane remarried.)

So with 17 children, from 2 wives, Jeremiah undoubtedly has many descendants that can trace their ancestry back to him.
