After completing Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., he joined the Marine Corps and proudly served as a sergeant in the Pacific theater during World War II, fighting for our country at many locations including Iwo Jima. Following the war, he attended the University of Virginia as a business major where he became a proud Wahoo. After college, he met Martha Hughes from Culpepper and they were married in Fredericksburg, Va., in 1947. They moved to Concord in 1948 where he worked as a yarn salesman or "String Peddler" for Cannon Mills, Inc., until his first retirement in the late 1980s. He was a gifted and outgoing salesman, leading his family to think he was "Stringing the world together one yarn after the other". Frank was very active in his beloved Concord which included many local organizations such as the Jaycees, Masons, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and CVAN. He was a founder of the Cabarrus Rotary Club where he served as president and Paul Harris Fellow. One of his favorite organizations that he also helped start in 1967 was the Concord High School Boosters' Club. An early fund raising event for the Boosters' Club was the selling of the Black and Gold Booster toboggans which can still show up at various Concord High sporting events. He was a passionate supporter of our community always looking to Concord's future. He served actively on the Concord Planning and Zoning board for six years and as a City Alderman for 14 years. During his time as an Alderman, he was involved in the annexation of the Charlotte Motor Speedway (that he always reminded his friends is in Concord) and creation of the Concord Regional Airport. He was also active with Concord Sister Cities helping establish our first Sister City of Killarney, Ireland. Frank was a man of many other interests including hunting, golf, scuba diving, tennis and racquetball. For many years, one of his favorite pastimes was boating in the "String Peddler III" where he cruised the Eastern seaboard from Delaware to Florida with his son Bill, exploring as many of the waterways and rivers as could be navigated. His love of college and pro sports was extensive from the University of Virginia Wahoos, UNC-Charlotte 49ers and the Carolina Panthers where he is an original PSL owner. He and his sons, Frank and Bill, enjoyed attending the ACC Basketball Tournaments for many years. Frank is Children: Frank A. Dusch III [ Suzanne ] - William C. "Bill" Dusch [ Debbie ]
