CASSOPOLIS - Ruby M. Johnson, 99 years old, of Cassopolis, MI, passed to her rest Aug. 21, 2015, at Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, after an illness. She was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Doublin, GA, the daughter of Walter and Lucille (Chapman) Mor-man. Ruby attended school in Detroit, taking secretarial and typing classes. While in Detroit she attended Moore School and Wayne State School of Fine Arts. She was a Notary Public of Wayne County, Michigan. During WW II, she worked for the Ford Motor Co. as a riveter on airplane wings, and was given the name of "Ruby the Riveter" by her fellow associates. She moved to Chicago where she was a member of Burns Avenue Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She worked for the Message Magazine and was a secretary for the Lake Region Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist. In Chicago, she was married Jan. 30, 1956, as Ruby Morman, to Cecil R. Johnson, and they moved to Cassopolis in 1971. She became a secretary for Andrews University in Berrien Springs, and worked there until her retirement . Ruby's husband, Cecil, passed in 1997 and her parents have also passed. Surviving are two nieces, Joan Reynolds Shelto of Afton, VA, and Dawn Reynolds of Laurel, MD; also several great-nieces and nephews; and many friends and church family members. Ruby was a faithful member of the Calvin Center Seventh-Day Adventist Church and her Memorial Service will be at that location, 19088 Brownsville Road, Casso-polis, on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at 11:00 AM, with a gathering time for one hour before the service. Cremation has taken place and her cremains have been inurned in the Calvin Community Church Cemetery in Calvin Center, alongside her husband, Cecil. Arrangements are by the Paul E.
