California Farmer and Journal 24 Jul 1863
"E. 0. Perry, Esq., near Mr. Whitton's, has 250 acres, all grain, a good average crop, planted from January to 15th March; will yield 22 to 25 bushels to the acre. Mr. P. recently met with a serious loss by fire, losing his barns, hay, grain, reaper, two horses, harness, and two hogs. His neighbors, however, belonging to humanity's Insurance company, soon rallied and made him feel they were his neighbors, and made up his loss to him. This was noble: they only, however, made him a loan: they will receive seven hundred per cent for it, for God has promised it."

Earl Otho Perry Passes To Reward
Old Pioneer Of Tulare County Dies After An Illness Of Several Months
"After an illness that has lasted over several months, Earl Otho Perry, 76 years of age, a farmer, who has been a resident of Tulare County for the last 50 years, died on the ranch of his son-in-law, William Sim, last night at 9 o'clock. The final end came suddenly, an attack of heart disease proving too much for Mr. Perry in his weakened condition.
Some time ago the deceased was taken to Fenwick Sanitarium but he returned to the ranch a short time ago, little improved from his long illness. Grief, too, over the death of his wife, who passed away only three months ago, had a very depressing effect on the lonely man. Mr. Perry is survived by six daughters, two of them being Mrs. William (Julia Ann) Sim and Mrs. Alma (Kelso Hamilton) Sim of San Jose.
The funeral will be held at the Christian Church in Visalia, Saturday morning at 10:30."
