(1879 - 1939)

Anton Wergin, 60, of 1503 Madison street, for many years a tavern operator in Manitowoc, died last night at the Maple Crest sanatorium, where he had been a patient five months.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m., from the Shimek and Schwartz funeral parlors and at 9 o'clock from the St. Mary's Catholic church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wergin was born in Chicago in 1879 and came to Manitowoc 40 years ago. He married Miss Mathilda Andrastek. She died five years ago. He opened a tavern on Madison street which he operated for many years. Ill health forced him to give up active work a year ago.

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Fred Pilster, Mrs. Roland Drumm and Mrs. Walter Hendries, city, Mrs. Victor Schaffer, route 2, Two Rivers; two sons, John and Anton Jr., city; mother, Mrs. Francis Wergin, Kewaunee, Wis.; five brothers, Julius, Ted and Peter, city, Andrew, Mishicot, Joseph, Kewaunee; three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Fitzgerald, Fort Pierce, Fla., Mrs. John Gallenberger, Kewaunee, Mrs. Pauline Wiesner, Casco, Wis.; and eight grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the Shimek and Schwartz parlors.
