On August 25, 2015 the Angels came down and picked up our beloved father, Col. Harvey Bernice Baker at the age of 93. It was a difficult maneuver as the former Screaming Eagle and member of the Band of Brothers would not give up the fight.

As the son of a Waxahachie, Texas share cropper from the early 1920's Harvey picked cotton every morning before his walk to school praying to God to find him a life that did not demand such hard work, but Harvey's perseverance and dedication followed him into the military. Harvey joined the CC Camps to earn money for his family and shortly later joined the Army where his strength and ability led him to become a Paratrooper of "Easy Co." 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division. He was also a part of Service Co., Rigger Section 1944-1945.

Harvey is one of the last remaining Screaming Eagles from the 101st Airborne and a member of the Band of Brothers who jumped over Normandy on June 6, 1944 and Holland on Sept. 17, 1944. He served under Col. Robert F. Sink, who became a 3 Star General. Harvey defended our country in many courageous war battles including Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, Belgium, December 18th - January 8, 1945, the Market Garden Operation in the Netherlands, earning 4 Bronze Stars and the Distinguished Unit Badge with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Unit Citation.

Among his illustrious military achievements, he served at the Pentagon as Directorate of Procurement Policy. It should be noted that he attained the Civil Service rank of GS15 at the young age of 39. Harvey's love for the Lord and strong faith kept him safe.

While stationed at Chanute Air Field, Champaign, Illinois, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Stahl and they were married in 1943. Together they began their family; Tom, Gary and Suzanne.

Harvey graduated from SMU with a BBA and a degree in mathematics and statistics.

Harvey became a full Colonel with the Air Force Reserves as well as Chief Procurement Officer with Kelley Air Force Base until his retirement in 1976. Later, Harvey became a home builder and chief golf player where he played golf daily outside his backyard in Windcrest. He was a faithful member of Windcrest United Methodist Church and served on several committees.

Harvey enjoyed the excitement of the stock market and provided good investment advice.

Harvey will always be remembered as a strong, courageous and hard working Christian man who never gave up and placed the Lord and family at the top of his list. His helmet and parachute will be replaced by a crown and a robe.

Col. Baker was preceded in death by his parents; 6 siblings and his first wife, Dorothy Stahl Baker and late wife, Renza Moscatelli Baker. Col. Baker is survived by his children, Tom Baker and wife, Melissa of Waxahachie, Gary H. Baker and wife, Barbara of San Antonio; daughter, Suzanne Baker of San Francisco; grandchildren, Blake Baker of Denton and Heather Baker of Waxahachie; step-grandsons, Shane Moore and wife, Jennifer and Nathan Moore and wife, Stacy; great grand-daughter, Kayleigh Baker of Denton who loved to sit on her greatpa's lap.

The family would like to thank Enroy, Arlene, Pearl, Suleman and Alicia of the Seasons Nursing Home for all of their kindness and nurturing they gave to our dad.
