Conrad Andrew Aarseth Jr, a longtime resident of both Elk Grove and Galt, died August 25, 2015 at the age of 92 with his family by his side.

Mr. Aarseth was born on March 23, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he lived until he joined the United States Army in 1940. During his training at Fort Ord in Monterey, California he met and married Joyce Stopp on December 31, 1944. After his discharge from the service in 1945 he started working on the Stopp dairy in Pacific Grove. In 1950 they moved the dairy to Elk Grove where he continued to be a dairy farmer until 1956 then raised beef cattle.

He worked a variety of farming jobs in addition to milking cows and raising beef cattle. He also worked at the Sacramento Mosquito Abatement for several years before going to work for the Elk Grove Unified School District as a bus mechanic, bus painter and bus driver until he retired in 1985.

In 1962 Mr. Aarseth started the first Christmas tree farm in the Elk Grove area and continued to raise Christmas trees until he sold the farm in 1990 and then he and his wife moved to Galt.

He continued his love of gardening, growing beautiful roses, vegetables especially corn and had numerous fruit trees. He enjoyed volunteer work at the Kaiser Hospital, a local hardware store in Galt, and a docent at the Stone Lake Wildlife Center as well as hobbies of traveling, family gatherings and long walks.

His friends said, "Conrad was a great friend, was giving, generous to a fault and enjoyed his family and lots of laughter. But above all was a great story teller."

Mr. Aarseth is survived by his children Linda Chandler and husband Marshal, Barbara Simonsma and husband Timothy, and David Aarseth and wife Cheryl; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce, who died November 17, 2011 and his daughter Joanne
