Jerline Barker, age 87, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at her home. She was born July 23, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of the late Austin and Wanda (Johnson) Bullard. Jerline was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Vernon area and was the owner and beautician of the Beauty Spot in Mt. Vernon for 40 years. She was a member of the Summit Baptist Church since 1939.
On June 10, 1945, she married Burl Barker at Summit Baptist Church after the morning worship service. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2006.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, JoAnn Hood and her husband, Phillip, of Mt. Vernon; five sons, Robert Barker and his wife, Joyce, and Roger Barker and his wife, Jan, all of Republic, Missouri, Keith Barker and his wife, Kay, and Brian Barker, all of Mt. Vernon, and Dean Barker of Bunceton, Missouri; sister-in-law, Norma Lee Walker of Moore, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Her sister, Joretta Butler and husband, Wayne; brother-in-law, Max Walker; niece, Janet Sanders, and nephew, David Walker also preceded her in death.
Grandsons will serve as casket bearers and great grandchildren are considered honorary casket bearers. A funeral service under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the Summit Baptist Church northeast of Mt. Vernon.
Burial will follow at the Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Summit Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.
