William Gregg, a highly respected citizen of this city died Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness, at the age of 73 years. Mr. Gregg has been compelled to use a truss for a number of years but in his hurried preparation to visit a daughter in Marion county last week he forgot his truss and made the trip without this protection which caused an inflation of the bowels that resulted in his death. His wife died from heart disease suddenly at the Union depot in Indianapolis some seven months ago. His funeral will take place this afternoon at 2 o’clock.

OBITUARY
Died, at his home in this city, Wednesday, the 25th ult., William Gregg.
William Gregg, was born in Franklin Co Indiana, May 6th, 1810. Being at his death 74 years, 10 months, and 19 days old. He was the son of Stephen and Hannah Gregg. He was one of 11 children of whom there are but 2 that survive him. Was married to Mary Armstrong Sept. 25th, 1834. There was born to them 7 children, of whom there are 5 left to mourn the loss of their father. He united with the Harmony Presbyterian church, in Franklin Co. under the Ministry of Rev. McCarthy, at the age of 30 years. He moved with his family to Johnson Co. in 1850, settling on a farm near Greenwood, where he remained until 1872, then with the remaining part of his family he moved to Franklin. Mr. Gregg was one of those honest, straightforward upright men, who although they do not make much commotion, yet constitute the very warp of every honorable and intelligent community. He got a kind word and cheerful smile for everybody, and would have been grieved, if misfortune had befallen an enemy. His wife with whom he had lived almost 50 years, died very suddenly last summer, and left him in loneliness. They intended soon to observe their golden wedding. Although there is neither marrying nor giving in marriage in heaven, let us trust that they have met in the city whose streets are gold, where the inhabitants never say “I am sick.” This hope of meeting one another, again in a region where all as perfection, robs death of his sting, and makes the victory of the grave a barren triumph.
