James Gordon “Jim” Anderson

Jim Anderson, 73, Kansas City, Missouri, died August 27, 2015 after an “I’m gonna beat it” battle with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was born October 2, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri to Wilma Keeney and Master Sergeant Paul Anderson, Jr.

Jim lived in Liberty, Missouri and graduated from Liberty High School in 1960. He was on the committee to organize the class’ 50th reunion. Jim worked as a soda jerk, shoe salesman, bank teller and ended his working career in 2001 after 33 years with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. His specialty was the Christmas boxed cards, as a trouble shooter.

In 1974 he met and married Kimberly Hamilton. They traveled across the country from Canada to Mexico. They checked out San Francisco & Los Angeles, Gettysburg & Scranton, Pennsylvania, Indianola, Iowa, her home town of Chicago, the badlands on their honeymoon, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Field of Dreams. And every corner of the city they lived in.

Jim loved baseball, following both the T-Bones & the Royals. He was a voracious reader of science fiction, mystery, politics and comic books. He loved the books of George MacDonald Fraser and Bill Bryson. We chased hot air balloons whenever we saw them. He loved movies old and new, from Casablanca to Indiana Jones. He loved exercising on his punching bag, his kettle bells & walking through the neighborhood with his wife and dog, Elphaba.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kimberly, sister Judy Addis, Kansas City, his brothers, Dennis Mabbott, Branson, Missouri and Bill Mabbott of Kansas City, Missouri and their wives and his brother-in-law, Bruce Hamilton of Thousand Oaks, California. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one great-great-nephew.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery, 71st & Troost, Kansas City, Missouri at 1 pm, Thursday, September 10, 2015. Let’s send him off with a cheer! Wear your favorite baseball attire. Plans are in place for a celebration of his life in the spring at a T-Bones game, which he loved.
