Charles Frederick Banka died at his home on West Edward street at 10 o'clock on Wednesday night. He had long been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach which caused his death.
Mr. Banka was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, on March 19, 1830. He came to America and located at Schenectady, N. Y., in 1851. In March, 1853, he married Mary Newman, also a native of Germany. They removed to Sycamore in 1858 and some ten years later to a farm on section 30, DeKalb township, where they continued to make their home until about one year ago when they removed to Sycamore.
Of their four children, the eldest daughter, Mrs. Carrie Dix, died February 14, 1898, at Leadville, Col.; the other children are Mrs. Eleanor Schriver, of Pocahantas, la.; John Banka, of Battle Creek, Mich.; Mrs. Effie Merrill, of Chicago, and Mrs. Alida Rahn, who has made her home with her parents in this city.
Mr. Banka was of strict integrity, was of a kindly disposition and was an esteemed citizen of this community in which he had spent so many years. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity.
The funeral services will be held at the Episcopal church on Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the interment will be with Masonic honors in Elmwood cemetery.
