DALLAS, TX - Carolyn Marie Adams, born in Cambridge, MA., on September 19, 1927, died on August 15, 2015 in Dallas, Texas. In the days before she passed, she was fortunate that her sons Mike, John and Joe were at her bedside and able to convey their love and farewells to her.
Her father was John Edward Dixey from Boston and mother was Mary Catherine Conneely, born in Brookline, MA. They lived in Brighton, MA: the six children included three brothers - Ned, George and Bobby - and her two sisters Joan and June. At the age of 22, Lynn moved from Boston to New York City, where she worked at Central Foundry for CEO Sydney Gondelman, a financier specializing in stocks and real estate. From him she learned about investing in the stock market, which continued to be an important interest to her throughout her life.
In New York, she met Jack Adams: they were married in 1961 and shortly afterwards moved to Akron, Ohio; in 1967, they returned to New York and settled in Mamaroneck, where they lived for over 45 years. Jack passed in 2005. They traveled some, but in the later years, their passion was gardening in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where they had a summer cottage in Dennisport. Harvest time yielded home canned tomatoes and extraordinary fresh salads.
Lynn was a strong willed woman who survived several cancers. She went back into the workforce at the age of 60, working for the Westchester County Sherriff’s Department for ten years. Even at the age of 75, she could walk up four flights of stairs to her Mamaroneck apartment.
Later she would live with her youngest son Joseph, his wife Sue, and grandchildren Nick and Matthew in Connecticut, and finally, she travelled to Dallas to spend time with oldest son Mike, his wife Pam, grandson Michael and granddaughter Chelyse, who- with her husband Scott Harrill- introduced great grandchildren Sophia and Madeleine into the family. Her youngest grandchildren from Mike include Naomi, now in the Midwest, and Ian, who serves in the USAF at Kunsan AFB, Korea.
Also surviving her is son John, in Palo Alto, CA; his wife Diana, and grandchildren John Jr. and Katherine.
She was buried in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA., on August 24, next to WWII veteran Jack Adams, whom she referred to as "the love of her life." It would not be a surprise, when we all meet again in the next chapter, that we'll find them growing vegetables and galaxies in their plot of land in the Garden of Eden.
Sleep well, Lynn.
