Evelyn Marie Ness, 94, died Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2002, at the home in Laurel she shared with her daughter, Glenda Martin.
Evelyn was born to Emil and Emma Nothnagel in Ridgeway Township, MN, on Nov. 9, 1907. She moved in 1911 with her parents to a homestead on Bad Route, out of Fallon.
She married Nels Ness in 1928, and they moved to Medora, ND, where they lived until his transfer with the Northern Pacific Railway brought them to Laurel in 1936. She has lived in Laurel since that time.
As past president and lifetime member of the Laurel American Auxiliary, and of the affiliate 8/40, she enjoyed civic activities. She was also a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Nels Ness; her parents; and two sisters.
She is survived by all of her children, Marilyn (Don) Scheidecker, Janet (William) Sorg, Joyce (Ray) Fiechtner of Laurel, Terrance (Hermine) Ness of Great Falls, Grace (Dennis) Barthuly of Billings, Ardyth (Don) Brown of Corvallis, OR, Fern (Ted) Montgomery of Kinsey, Ivan (Marianne) Ness of Rathdrum, ID; Glenda Martin of Laurel, and Valley (Ed) Lowrance of Pagosa Springs, CO; and a special nephew, Gene Johnstone of Billings. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces in both this country and Norway.
