Helen Wampler graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Physical Education and Biological Science. She was a volunteer and member of many charitable and civic organizations in Casper and Wyoming.
Mrs. Wampler was instrumental in organizing the Casper YMCA, the Special Olympics and The League of Women Voters in which she served as the first president. She was a board member for Big Brothers, The American Red Cross, Salvation Army and the YMCA. It was during her term as YMCA president that the land was acquired and the building was funded for the present location of the YMCA. She won the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr award for her efforts in organizing the first Wyoming Special Olympics in 1975.
