William C. Bodmer, 82, of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center Pineville.

He was born in Utica, NY, on June 18, 1933, to Dorothy Ruback, #66366897, b. 1900, d. 1960, and William Bodmer, #66365705, b. 1903, d. 1970.

Bill attended college at Mohawk Valley Community College and graduated in 1956. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 as part of the 1170th Military Police.

He married Mary Ann Sparbier. She was born October 13, 1934; died November 6, 1997.

Bill was a member of Chalmers Memorial ARP Church where he served as a Ruling Elder, Assistant Treasurer and chaired the Pastoral Search Committee. He worked at Lamson Corporation, Syracuse, NY from 1957-1979 in multiple roles including department manager in System Design and Cost Estimating as well as Sales Engineer. He founded W.C. Bodmer & Associates as an independent contractor in 1979.

Bill coached youth baseball and basketball for many years with longtime friend Carlo DellaMea. He also taught ESL through a church affiliated program.

He was a life member of Charlotte Power Squadron, a unit of United States Power Squadrons, the nation's largest private boating organization. He served in many capacities including Commander of Charlotte Squadron and of District 27. At the national level he served on the Historian Committee and the Meetings Committee. Locally, he taught Basic Boating, Aides to Navigation and Rules of the Road to the public and seamanship, Advanced Piloting and Navigation to the Charlotte Squadron members.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Sparbier Bodmer; son, Christopher G. Bodmer as well as his brother Christopher G. Bodmer.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren Paige Bodmer Zaukas of Leesburg, VA and Brian G. Bodmer of Charlotte, NC as well as his great granddaughter Grace Kinsley Zaukas.

Visitation for P/D/C Bodmer will be held on Thursday, Sept 3, 2015 at 10:00am at the Chalmers Memorial ARP Church, 1500 Starbrook Drive, Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am following the visitation. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park. USPS members are encourage to follow the Uniform of the Day: Blazer w/pocket patch and grey slacks, white shirt w/appropriate four-in-hand-tie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Chalmers Memorial ARP Church.
