Deette O. Adams Evans was the only daughter born to the late Preston Adams Sr. and the late Deette Adams-Robinson on May 22, 1941, in Woodville, MS. She later joined in holy matrimony with Percy C. Evans. She went to her eternal rest on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the age of 65.

Sister Evans was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Gulfport, where she served faithfully in these capacities: member of the senior choir, secretary of the Jackson-Robinson-Hebert Missionary Society, secretary of the stewardess board, member of the steward board, pastor's care committee, a member of the finance committee, and a layperson. Deette assisted on various food committees and in any other capacity in which she was asked to serve.

Mrs. Evans was educated in her early years in Woodville, MS. She later moved to Gulfport, where she finished at 33rd Avenue High School. She was a valued employee at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport for over 35 years, where she retired in 2000 as the kitchen manager.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her mother, father, and four brothers; Otis Adams, Augustus Adams, Paul Adams, and Duncan Adams.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories her husband, Percy Evans of Gulfport; two sons: Gabriel Adams of Gulfport and Alfy Ray (Sherry) Adams Sr., of Villa Rica, GA; two brothers: Preston (Bessie) Adams of Denver, CO and William Adams of Woodville, MS; five grandchildren: Jessica Horn, Victoria Adams both of Gulfport, Reginae Smith of Villa Rica, GA, Alfy Ray Adams Jr. of Gulfport, MS and Raenisha Adams of Villa Rica, GA; seven sisters-in-law: Kathryn Ray of Gulfport, Charlotte Zeno of Houston, TX, Mary (Ernest) Burton of Sacramento, CA, Martha (Willie) Brown of Rancho Cordova, CA; Alberta (Herman) Tillman of Bigelow, AK, Roberta Jimerson of Riverside, CA and Mozella Spearman of Kalamazoo, MI; two godsons: Courtenay Brown of Houston, TX and Devonta Peters of Gulfport and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 4538 Old Pass Road in Gulfport, where Rev. Lee Adams Sr. is pastor. Rev. Artimise Clemons, pastor of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Gulfport, will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be at the church two hours prior to service time. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge (Evergreen) Cemetery in Gulfport.
