Mrs. Bailey was shot to death by Jacob Grundy in her home on Silver Pines Road, Garfield Twp. He buried her body under a pine tree on a Christmas Tree farm about 4 miles northeast of Brendon in Benzie County and left the area. After Mrs. Bailey's daughter discovered a bloody mattress in the Silver Pines Road house in May 1959, the Michigan State Police were notified, and in June, Mr. Grundy was picked up in Manistique, Michigan, who confessed to the crime, and showed authorities where he buried his victim. He was arraigned on June 8, and went on trial in July. Mr. Grundy was found guilty of second degree murder on July 23, 1959, and sentenced to 75 to 99 years at Southern Michigan Prison at Jackson.
