Marie grew up in Los Angeles. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1941, and attended Woodbury College where she majored in business administration. During World War II she worked at McDonald Douglas and joined the Inglewood Chapter of the USO. When the war ended, she moved with her parents to Fawnskin, California (near Big Bear Lake) and was working for the US Ranger Station office when she met and married Walter Hoehn in 1948. Widowed at 30 after Walter succumbed to Hodgkin’s disease, she moved to Whittier, California, and worked in the Personnel Department of the Whittier Union High School District. There she met teacher and athletic coach Richard Zisko. They married in 1956 and moved to La Habra, California, in 1964 where they raised one daughter. Marie retired from Buffums Department stores in 1983. She loved ice-skating, music, horses, and being a mother. She was a member of the Defenders of Wildlife organization, and was passionate about protecting wolves, polar bears and other imperiled wildlife. She passed away at 87 from cardiopulmonary arrest and pulmonary edema. Her daughter was by her side. Marie's ashes are buried next to Richard's in the Garden of Affection at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. (KLZ)
