HUMBLE, TEXAS - Jim B. Meeker, beloved husband, father and grandfather peacefully passed away on September 3, 2015 at the age of 74. Jim was born in Akron, Ohio to Harry and Ernestine Meeker. He grew up in many parts of the United States, including Georgia, Arizona, Missouri, and even Alaska.

After graduating high school, Jim joined the Marine Corps and served for 6 years. Over a 35-year career, Jim worked in petrochemical engineering as a pipe designer. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, including starting his own roofing business in the 1980s. He was a 32° Mason in the Scottish Rite and was a life time member of the Holland Lodge #1 AF and AM in Houston. Jim was a man of few words, and he enjoyed working with his hands on projects. He loved building and fixing things, and then tearing them apart and rebuilding them. He never willingly called a repairman or mechanic. Instead, he relied on his own ingenuity. His humor was dry, which made it hard to know if he was joking. (But he usually was.) He had a great love for country and western music, John Wayne movies, the USA, the Marines, the Houston Oilers, and countless cats and dogs.

He loved his children and grandchildren. Most of all he loved Shirley, his wife of 49 years, who he met on a blind date in 1966. He would often sing the Engelbert Humperdinck song “After the Loving” to her. After the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease, Jim would recognize his wife, but still occasionally ask her, “What is your name?” She would reply that she would not tell him. He’d ask again, “What is your name?” She then would say, “Shirley! Shirley! Shirley!” That smile would cross his face and he would say, “Shirley, that's a beautiful name. Hey, your name is Shirley!”

Jim is preceded in death by Ernestine Meeker, his mother, who died when Jim was 8-years-old, and by his father, Dr. Harry Meeker, who died in 2001.

Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley; and by his sons Troy and his wife Renata, Jason and his wife Stephanie; and Paul and his fiancée Katerina Romanova; and by his daughter Kristina Meeker-Ruiz and Salvador. His surviving grandchildren are Emiliano Gonzales, Elijah and Alexis Ruiz, Henrik and Lenke Wiwczaroski, and Samuel Meeker.

Jim is also survived by his stepmother, Eleanor; his sister, Peggy Baker and her husband Max; and by his brother John Tobias Meeker and his wife Simone; and by his sister Kristine Mayer. Surviving sister-in-laws include Barbara Pouncey and her husband, Billy; and Beverly Hopkins and her husband, Jesse. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Jim.

Mary and Jerry Fontaine, who were so close that they remain Aunts and Uncles to the Meeker family, also survive Jim. His closest friends included Al and Barbara Riddle, and Suzie Victor and Jim Rogers. His best friend was Jim Stedman.

The Meeker family would like to thank the following people and organizations for their love, care and support to Jim and Shirley over the years: Dr. Marie DeWitt, Sarah's Care, Charlene Bradley, Katina West, George Henry, Chaplain Edwards, Rev. Cameron Supak, Mike Thomas and Kenneth Parker.
Jim Meeker would often answer questions with just one word. Whenever he was asked, “How are you?” he’d exclaim, “Outstanding!”
