Rubin S. J. Huffman, Aged 75, Passed Away Thursday Morning, Feb. 10th -- Funeral Sunday
Ruben S. J. Huffman, one of the old settlers of this community, passed away Thursday morning, February 10, 1921 at 8:30 o'clock at his home in Ionia. He had been in poor health for some time but was able to be up and around as usual up to the time of his death.
Mr. Huffman was born in Carroll county, Indiana, Dec. 2, 1845, and was 75 years, 2 months and 8 days old. he came with his parents to Chickasaw county when a young man and has since resided here. June 22, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Emily J. Beckwith of Floyd county, Iowa, who survives him. To this union eight children were born, one, Mrs. Nettie M. Crooks died Jan. 6, 1903.
Those with the aged mother who are left to mourn his death are: Mrs. Almina Bruner, Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Carrie A. Groom, Lee, Mont.; Leroy Huffman, Lee, Mont.; Mrs. Rosanna M. Crooks, Mrs. Orpha E. Thomas, Ionia; Harry Huffman, Lee, Mont.; and William H. Huffman, at home, besides several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Huffman was a good, honest, industrious man. He tried to do right in all his dealings and was respected by all his many friends where he had lived so long.
Both he and his wife have been in poor health for some time and Mrs. Huffman is sick now.
The children, with the exception of Mrs. Carrie A. Groom of Lee, Mont., were present at the funeral. Leroy had been here for the past few weeks and Harry H. came Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Almina Bruner and husband and Opal came Friday. Six of his grandsons were pallbearers.
The funeral was held at the Congregational church Sunday at 1:00 p.m., Rev. F. S. Arts, the pastor, officiating, and burial was in Greenwood cemetery, Nashua.
Among those present at the funeral were Mrs. Garrett Rowe, S. C. Rowe, Ed Carey, Floyd; Wm. C. Bonsell and son Roy, Deerfield; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Toole, Bassett; Josh Huffman and Mrs. J Huffman, Charles City; George G. Huffman and wife, Nashua; George D. Huffman and wife, Bradford; James Crooks, Harpers Ferry, Iowa; and many relatives and friends in this community came to pay respect and tribute to an old neighbor and friend and to the bereaved family.

Their daughters included Nettie May Huffman Crooks and Rozanna Malliccie Huffman Crooks, who were both wives of George Washington Crooks, and Almina Lucinda Huffman Crooks Bruner, who was the wife of George Washington Crooks' brother Samuel George Crooks.
