Janice was the youngest daughter of Ruel Simmons and Clemmie Mae Marshall, and she was only 8 years old when her mother died. In a short time, she had a step-mother Ada, and it was not long afterward, she moved to her sister and brother-in-law's home in Florida. By the age of sixteen, she was married with an infant daughter.

She was the second wife of Jack Thompson. As a mother, she had a step-son, a daughter, then a son, and lastly adopted a little girl. She had several much-older half siblings but only one sister, Katherine. She worked the Pig In-Drive on St. Augustine Beach for years. An excellent cook, she always had on her supper table a pot of rice, delicious venison, a pound cake made with turtle eggs, or gopher stew. And, there was always an extra chair at table as all were welcome.

In the last years of her husband's life, she was the primary caregiver for him. For many years, she care with her brother-in-laws Johnny and Desso, who were both disabled at a young age. Before her death, she became bedridden for about 10 years with chronic cardiac problems. She buried next to her husband and mother-in-law.

St Paddy's Day 2013....a special thank you to Bill for sponsoring Janice's memorial. Your kind gesture was appreciated.
