Korean Service Medal, the United Nations
Service Medal, the National Defense Service
Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation
and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
He was 70 inches tall and weighed 152 pounds.
On the afternoon of June 18, 1953, C-124
Globemaster II transport took off from
Tachikawa Air Base, near Tokyo, Japan,
carrying mostly personnel returning to
the Korean War front from time off in
Tokyo for R&R leave.
The transport stalled and crashed shortly
after takeoff and crashed in a watermelon
field. All 122 passengers and 7 crew aboard
were killed.
This was the deadliest aviation accident
in history, as of that date, and the first
airplane crash to claim more than one
hundred lives.
