OBITUARY: TRANSLATION FROM J STOUTIMORE: Der Deutsche Correspondent, Baltimore. 12-28-1901 (translated):
After nearly a year's illness, Mr. Georg Itzel died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock at his home at No. 105 South Central Avenue, where he had lived for the last 36 years. Born at Lengfeldt, Hesse-Darmstadt, on May 1, 1835, Mr. Itzel came to America on June 10, 1854, and began a tailoring business in East Baltimore. Up until his last birthday on May 1, 1901, Mr. Itzel worked in the business, then sat down to rest. He spent 30 years at E. C. Claus and A. Eck's customer tailoring firms. He enjoyed a great circle of friends during his lifetime and, besides his widow Elisabeth, leaves four sons, Messrs Charles Itzel, Adam Itzel, Andr. Itzel and Joseph Itzel, three daughters, Mrs. Katharine Noeth, Mrs. Anna M. Albert, and Mrs. Eva Rohleder, a brother, Prof. Adam Itzel of the Music Academy orchestra, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Schlaffer, as well as 10 grandchildren.
He was a member of the "Allgemeinen Arbeiter Kranken Unterstützungs Vereins" [general support for sick workers association], and Chesapeake Council No. 93, K. W. L. His funeral takes place Saturday morning at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery following a requiem for the redemption of his soul at St. Michael's Church. Mr. Itzel was a loyal reader and subscriber of Der Deutsche Correspondent for 43 years.
