LESTER C. BLAND, 72, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2015. Born Aug. 27, 1943, in Paulding County, Ohio, he was the son of Cletus G. and Mabel L. (Saxton) Bland. On Oct. 18, 1986, he married Patricia Giesken Messman; she survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired in 1998 from BF Goodrich, Woodburn, Ind. where he served in numerous various positions including executive board and union steward. He was a strong fighter for his people of the union and was a proud American. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 587 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 2405, Paulding. He is also survived by his children, Rodney (Pamela) Bland of Delphos, Ohio, Todd (Trish) Messman of Paulding, Ohio, Daniel (Renee) Messman of Leo, Ind., Karen Relyea, Defiance, Ohio, Renee (Chad) Coutts of Hillard, Ohio; brothers, Glenn (Beverly) Bland of Defiance, Ohio, Robert (Shirley) Bland of Antwerp, Ohio, Harry (Pam) Bland of St. Joe, Ind., and Gregory Bland of Scott; sisters, Catherine (Jerry) Matson of Oakwood, Rae (Charles) Holtsberry of Paulding, Wilma Bland of Haviland; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Sandra Kay Bland. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at Paulding Church of the Nazarene, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Gardens of Paulding Activity Fund; Paulding County Hospital; or Paulding Church of the Nazarene.
