Carolyn "Sue" Baker Lewis

Carolyn "Sue" Baker Lewis, of rural Hurdland, Missouri passed away September 7, 2001 at her residence east of Hurdland.
A daughter of James J. and Lizzie Lou Ocker Baker, she was born August 2, 1942 at Sue City, Missouri.
On March 20, 1960, she was united in marriage to Melvin R. Rimer and three daughters were born to this marriage.
On June 7, 1976 at Bethel, Missouri she was married to Gene E. Lewis and one daughter was born to this union.
She is survived by her husband Gene, of the home, four daughters and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, one sister and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ronald Baker, Albert Baker and Dudley Baker; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ocker.
She moved with her parents to Elsberry, Missouri, when she was 10 months old and at the age of twelve the family moved to La Plata, Missouri where she was graduated from the La Plata High School in 1960.
From 1962 until the time of her death, Sue has lived in Knox City [sic]. While living in Newark, Missouri, she was very active as secretary, treasure, city clerk of the town board, and founder of the Newark Park Fund. She was involved in Meals on Wheels and Senior Citizen activities. The Lewis family sold the ground to Newark for the Senior Housing Units. Sue was very active in rehabilitation of houses and sidewalks in Newark and helping compile the history of Newark. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Lewis owned and operated Lewis Trucking and G&S Kennels/Ivy Knoll Kennel Carriers until Sue's health failed.
She had a great love of flowers, animals, children and country music.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (September 11, 2001) at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel at Edina, Missouri, with Reverend Norm Snowbarger, officiating.
Burial will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery, east of Atlanta, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday (September 10, 2001) at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Edina, Missouri.
