ABERNATHY, HILTON HORACE - 79, died of cancer at his home in Kingston, Tenn. on October 25, 1999. Mr. Abernathy was a Leland, Miss. native and a graduate of Leland High School and Sunflower Junior College. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1947 and was an active member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He taught school in Lambert, Miss. before working for Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, Tenn. until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, Army Air Corps serving in the 13th Airdrone Squadron. He was a member of the Local VFW. Survivors: wife, Juanita; daughter, Vicki Thrower of Fayetteville, N.C.; sons, Stephen A. Abernathy of Lebanon, Tenn. and Douglas R. Abernathy of Pampa, Texas; sister, Mrs. Alvin Scott of Jackson, Miss.; and four grandsons. Graveside service 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roane Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Roy Graves officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kingston, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
