Last Sunday morning, June 29, Miss Lucy Freeman oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Freeman, was married at Montgomery Church to Mr. John Russell of Odell, Okla..
Mrs. J. H. Freeman is guest of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Johnston, in McComb.
"Brookhaven & Lincoln County" The Early Teen Years, 1913-1915
Lucy Freeman married John Russell after Polly advertised for a husband and refused to marry him when he came. They moved to Oklahoma and lived in a tent. Lucy took the dropsy and Pa Freeman (Hiram Benjamin Freeman) went to Oklahoma and brought her home to Mississippi.
She never knew what became of John Russell. Paw Freeman's son said that his daddy used a settlement from the Railroad Co. for damage to his eye that he lost vision in, to pay his way to get Lucy and bring her home.
