Emma Caroline Susan Engelland was born on February 6, 1934 at home near Corsica, SD to Leroy and Emma (Blume) Bamberg. She grew up on the farm near Corsica and graduated from Corsica High School in 1952. Following graduation, Emma attended Stewarts School of Hair Styling in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked as the manager of Stewarts Beauty Salon in Mitchell until starting her own salon in Parkston. On May 4, 1957 Emma married Ralph Engelland at St. Peter Lutheran Church near Armour, SD. They moved to a farm North of Armour where Emma opened Emma's Beauty Shop. After 40 years on the farm they retired in 1998 and moved to Armour. Emma was an active member of St Peter. Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, Quilting Guild, Women's Bible Study, and arranged flowers for many years. She also loved being a member of the Chateaux Creek Women's Extension Club. Emma had a love of crocheting, knitting, drawing, reading, music, flower gardening, and taking care of her grandchildren. After many years of battling Alzheimer's, Emma died on February 20, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica at the age of 77.

She is survived by her husband, ralph of Armour, SD; 3 children: Pam of Mitchell, SD; Tim and wife, Lee of Mitchell, SD; and John and wife, Renee of Armour, SD; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Henry A. Bamberg of Corsica, SD and Louis Bamberg and wife Dona of Corsica, SD; brother-in-law: Emanuel Hille Jr. of Mitchell, SD; and 2 sisters-in-law: Lois Bamberg of Mitchell, SD and Beverly Bamberg of Madison, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother, Frieda (Blume) Bamberg, 2 brothers, Gilbert and Leroy, 3 sisters, Grace Holstein, Carol Hille, and Dora Bamberg.
