Alberta G. Jimenez went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2014. She died peacefully at home with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Garcia, and her husband, Edward F. Jimenez, Sr. Alberta is survived by her loving children, Mary A. Villarreal, Frances J. Teran, Edward F. Jimenez, Jr. and partner Christopher Diaz, and Grace J. English and her husband George; and her constant companion and loving sister, Therese. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters.

Alberta was a life-long advocate for early childhood education. She founded the kindergarten program at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in 1964. She went on to be a pioneer in the San Antonio Head Start Program. She continued to help and grow the Head Start program for the next 30 years improving the lives of thousands of children in the San Antonio community.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
