Mr. Douglas M. Leybourne, Sr. age 98, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014. He was born in Toronto, Canada on March 30, 1915 to John and Frances (Dobbing) Leybourne and served his country during WWII as Captain in the US Army in the 69th Infantry Division. He was a decorated Artillery Officer fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and liberating Buchenwald Concentration Camp.

Douglas had married the former Anna Marie Kolodziejski; and after her passing, he married Peggy A. Matrone.

Mr. Leybourne had been employed as an Insurance Agent for years until retiring. He was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he also taught Sunday school. Doug was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a past member of the American Business Club. Doug belonged to the Muskegon Power Squadron acting one time as Commandant and Captain. He volunteered for the Muskegon Cancer Society, was very active at the Muskegon YMCA and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Muskegon for 50 plus years until his death.

SURVIVORS Wife and long time best friend, Peggy; a son, grandchildren, step grandchildren, special grandchildren, a sister, Doreen Foust; a nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by first wife, Anna Marie in 1999; daughter, Ann Biebel in 2001 and infant grandson, Vincent in 1979.

SERVICE Saturday, March 22, 2014, 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. William J. Fleener Sr. officiating and Military Honors under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. Interment at Laketon Township Cemetery.
