Mildred Arlene Stevens Drake, 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at her home after a long illness.

She was born on August 5, 1926 in Unity, the daughter of Guy and Sadie (McLeod) Stevens.
Mildred graduated from Freedom Academy in June 1945. In April 1946, she married the love of her life Fred A. Drake.

Along with being a homemaker, Mildred worked at Monmouth Canning Co. in Freedom and R.P. Hazard Co. in Augusta. Upon completion of the nursing assistant course at Kennebec Valley Vocational-Technical Institute in January 1977, she worked eleven years at the Augusta Convalescent Center before retiring in September of 1988. After retirement, she and Fred spent winters in Florida through 2000. Since then they have been in Maine near most of their family.
She was a member of the Josiah H. Drummond Chapter #91, O.E.S. in Thorndike and a past member of the Dirigo Grange #98 in Freedom. She was also a member of the South Parish Congregational Church in Augusta.

Mildred was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Frank, Ralph, Raymond and Hillard Stevens; and her sisters Marjorie Smith and Doris Nickless.

She is survived by her husband of 69 plus years Fred A. Drake of Augusta; a daughter Donna Drake of Boscawen, NH; a son Fred Drake Jr. and his wife Patti of Augusta; 3 grandchildren, Ame Drake and her partner Paula Grotten of Windsor; Tessa Herbold and her husband Pablo of Southboro, MA; and Jeremy Drake and his wife Melissa of Farmington; 6 great grandchildren; Emily Drake-Michaud, Luke Herbold, Leo Herbold, Evan Drake, Samuel Herbold and Chloe Drake. She also leaves behind a sister-in -law Emma Stevens of Unity; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, September 14 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Rt. 137, in Freedom.
