Born in Illinois to John C. & Dorothea (Johnson) Anderson, Frank and his wife, Bertha (Strand) farmed the southwest quarter of Section 23 in Elm Township west of Ellendale, N. D. The raised cattle and hogs on their property. Frank and Bertha were the parents of ten children: Francis, Paul, Harvey, William "Merle," Floyd, Dorothy, Donald, Lynn, Gordon, and Howard.
