Helen A (Isakson) Douglas passed away Thursday evening, May 25, 2006, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Sep 7, 1921, in Duluth, MN, to Carl and Eleanore (Pederson) Isakson. Helen graduated from Denfeld High School in 1939. After finishing beauty school, Helen served in the United States Navy during World War II. She was united in marriage to Robert K Douglas on Dec 31, 1945. Together they raised six sons and two daughters on a farm just out of Carlton. Helen was an active member of Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Auxiliary #2962 of Carlton. She held the office of president several times as well as holding chairmanships for the 8th District VFW Auxiliary. Helen was also a member of the Kenneth Nyquist Am-Vets Post #29 of Carlton and Women Veterans. She was known as Ma, Mom, Grandma and Helmoe to her family and extended family in which she took great pride in.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Carl and Eleanore Isakson; her five brothers, Paul I, Kaari, Paul II, Arnie and Martin; three nephews, Donald, Eugene and Chester; and one niece, Linda.

She is survived by her six sons, Roy (Carol) Douglas of Zion, IL, David (Leslie) Douglas, Watt (Kim) Douglas, Donald (Joanne) Douglas, Kaari (Deb) Isakson and Gary Douglas, all of Carlton; two daughters, Carol Marie Douglas of Carlton and Sandra (James) Snyder of Minot, ND; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 5-7pm Monday, May 29, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. The visitation resumed Tuesday, May 30, from noon until the 1pm funeral service, also at Nelson Funeral Care, officiated by the Rev Michael Fossen. Music was provided by Steven and Patti Isakson. Helen's six sons served as pallbearers. Military honors were presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery in Carlton. A luncheon followed at the Carlton VFW.
