Catherine L. Brandt, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock, IL.
She was born July 2, 1923, in Chicago to Herman and Dora (Bransen) Witteveen. Cay was the oldest of five children. Besides her parents, Cay was preceded in death by her siblings ; Louis Willeveen, Lucy Schell, Herb Witteveen and Nicolas Witteveen.
Cay attended grade school at St. Willibrords in Roseland and Fenger High School in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Harry Brandt. Cay married Harry on May 10, 1947 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1989.
Cay and Harry raised their three children and lived in Park Forest, IL for close to 50 years before she moved to Woodstock to be near her son and family. While living in Park Forest, Cay was very active at St. Irenaeus Church as a Eucharistic Minister visiting the homebound and on the funeral meal committee. She was active in The Daughters of Isabella. Cay enjoyed her job working at Sears in Park Forest.
She is survived by three children; Russell Brandt (Rebecca) of VanWert, Ohio, Dave Brandt (Donna) of Wonder Lake, IL and Karen Jolokai (Dennis) of Everett, Wa, and grandchildren Katie Fischer (Jeremy), Chris Jolokai (Richeli), Alisa Brandt, Kari Firak (John), Lucas Brandt (Sandra) and Nick Jolokai (Krystina). She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who fondly called her Grandma Aunt Cay.
Cay will be remembered for her joyful laugh, her corny jokes and her delicious Dutch pastry, cookies and meatloaf that she shared with everyone. Interment Calvary Cemetery in Steger, IL.
