Annie Mae Gast, 82, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Annie was born October 24, 1932 to immigrant parents Gerrit and Pearl "Nellie" (Ferwerda) Rooda from Holland; they came to America thru Ellis Island in New York, in March of 1930, and were later granted United States Citizenship (Naturalization). Annie was united in marriage with Arthur H. Gast on May 3, 1957 in Raymond, MN. From this loving union they adopted two sons, Scot and Todd. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church on June 2, 1957 at Grace Lutheran in Fargo, N.D. The couple moved to Kansas City, MO in 1970 from Fargo, N.D. She spent the majority of her working career in Kansas City as an Administrative Assistant in the office of the Vice-Principal at Park Hill High School. She retired September 15, 1989. Annie will be remembered as a loving and extremely organized mother, grandmother and friend. She may have been small in stature but very big in her ways of letting you know where she stood with her thoughts. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, and two infant brothers. She leaves behind two loving sons, Scot Gast of Shawnee, KS and Todd Gast of Platte City, MO; five wonderful grandchildren: Nicole, Frank, Taylor, Aron, Kelsey; three great- granddaughters and one great- grandson; and one brother, Sidney Rooda (Marion) of Willmar, MN. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 5409 N.W. 72nd Str., Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Peter Rehwaldt as officiant. The Committal Service will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery. The Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville has been entrusted with the final arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
