Martha Elizabeth “Mott” Kornahrens of Charleston, widow of Jesse C. Kornahrens, entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2015
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Kornahrens are invited to attend a visitation at 12:00 pm Tuesday, September 15 at Northbridge Baptist Church, which will be followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. The burial will be private.
Martha was born on December 9, 1928, in Eutawville, SC, daughter of George and Norma Sutfcliffe. Martha enjoyed a long nursing career. In 1973, she become one of the first nurse practitioners in the state. During this time she worked at the Health Department, Florence Crittendon and the Sea Islands. After many years of nursing, she decided to retire and take up painting. Martha was one of the founding members of the Waterfront Gallery. She found much joy in creating her watercolor collages of her “rainy day” people and the people of the Sea Islands.
In 2012, she moved to the Palms in Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed the friendships she made there. She will always be remembered for having a smile to greet you and the caring heart she had for all she met, especially her family. She adored spending time with her family.
Martha was preceded in death by her brother Jacob A. Hughes. She is survived by her brother Dicki (Tresi) Sutcliffe, her children Keith (Erma) Kornahrens, Georgia Arnold, Vicki (Neil) Robinson and Linda (Howard) Sachs, grandchildren Wade Kornahrens, Lee (Creighton) Eddings, Trey Robinson, Taylor Robinson, Hunter (Stephen) Forstchen, Jessie (Jessica) Arnold, Eric Arnold, and Matthew Sachs, great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
