Audrey Marguerite Engelhardt was born on April 26, 1921 to August Engelhardt and Margaret Honora Wagner in Gulfport, Mississippi, the youngest of four children.
She lived with her parents until she graduated high school and then went to stay with her sister and brother-in-law in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Her brother-in-law, Carl Wallace, was working as a salesman for a grocery store and had met Raymond Carl Spencer, a salesman for a bottling company living at home with his parents in Lake Charles, LA.

Mr. Wallace introduced Mr. Spencer to Miss Engelhardt and on June 1, 1941, Mr. Spencer and Miss Engelhardt were wed in Gulfport, Mississippi.

They returned to live in Louisiana for most of their married life, with brief stints in Beaumont, Texas and Gulfport, Mississippi. They raised four children, three sons and one daughter.

Mrs. Spencer worked at Sears Department Store, Brousse's Toyland, and did volunteer work at Humana/Women and Children's Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, also in Lake Charles.

Mrs. Spencer passed away in a Lake Charles hospital on August 14, 2008 at the age of 87. She will be most remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and for the good meals served at her home.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Regina Spencer Wawak (George) of Lake Charles, LA; three sons, Raymond Carl Spencer (Annette) of Sulphur, LA, Ronald Spencer of Lake Charles, and Thomas Spencer (Debbie) of Lake City; seven grandchildren: Buffy Mutti of Norwalk, CT, Lance Spencer of Glenwood Springs, CO, Tony Spencer of Clarksville, GA, Melanie Spencer of Lake City, FL, Clint Spencer of Lake City, FL, Shannon Dupuis of Lake Charles, LA, and Kara Loach of Katy, TX; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Esther Engelhardt Wallace, Augustine Engelhardt Leissler, and one brother, Eugene Emile Engelhardt.

Funeral services were held at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Lake Charles, LA on August 17, 2008, with Father Don Piraro officiating. Burial was held in Prien Memorial Park, also in Lake Charles, LA.
