Mahlon A. Newberg, 78, Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012. A memorial were held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Lied Center in Clarinda.
He was the youngest of twelve children born to Alick E. Newberg and Flossie L. (Thurber) Newberg. He was born on Dec. 21, 1935 in Villisca. He grew up and attended school in Villisca, until he joined the United States Army. While in the Army, he married Joyce Allene (Clark) Newberg of Clarinda. They were blessed with three children.
In 1969 he moved his family to Kansas City, Mo., Mahlon worked as a body shop manager for years. He enjoyed aking furniture and crafts with his wife. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Allene; sisters Elsie Havens, Gladys Govig, Fern Potter, Iva Lee Lawson, Delta Shaffer, Louise Smith; brother, Wilbur Newberg.
Mahlon is survived by his children: John Newberg and wife Kelly of Independence, Mo., Frank Newberg of Independence, Mo., Deb Brown and husband Richard of Clarinda; grandchildren, Travis Smith and wife Misty of North Kansas City, Mo., Heather Smith, Jessica Smith, Shantika Smith, all of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Kaden Smith and Trinity Smith of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Ben St. Lawrence of North Kansas City, Mo.; sisters Emma Khun of Villisca, Dorothy Briggs of Woster, Ohio, brothers Roy Newberg and wife Ruth of Atlantic, Ray Newberg and wife Charlotte of Clarinda, and many other family members. He will be greatly missed!
