The family moved to California during the Great Depression where Mark recalled seeing families turned away at the California border from entering the state, Orange groves burned while hungry citizens watched and his best friend removed from his home and sent to an internment camp.
After many unsuccessful tries (due to age) he was finally able to join the Navy near the end of WWII where he served on the Liberty Ship, U.S.S. Samar. It was during his service that he had the opportunity to see both the B-19 and the Spruce Goose fly over Long Beach harbor, not knowing that years later he would be sitting in Howard Hughes seat at the Evergreen Aviation Museum.
Mark and his 1st wife Dorothy (Dottie) were blessed with 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. He gave his children a wonderful childhood filled with love, often working 2 or 3 jobs to make sure they had all they needed. He loved them all dearly and always made sure they knew it.
Mark was a senior gas blender with Beckman Instruments for 35 years. He was called by M.I.T. several times for his input on various problems with gases and was personally responsible for saving several Navy contracts due to his expertise in thinking "outside the box."
In later years, he and his wife Diane displayed their "Flags of America" program throughout the Northwest promoting patriotism. He was proud to be an American and "Flags of America" was his way of honoring all veterans from 1776 through today.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Diane; Sons Ken and Dan; 4 Daughters; 27 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and so very many friends who will all miss him greatly. We are blessed for having him in our lives and he will always be in our hearts until we see him again.
Mark was preceded in leaving these earthly binds by his parents; brothers Ken and Earl Jr; Sister Bertha; sons Mark and Tim and grandson John Murnane Jr.
This remarkable man is being lovingly cared for by City View Funeral Home and will be buried in their Veterans Circle.
